We stayed at L’Ombrière for five nights and fell in love not only with the simple elegance of the 18th century manor house but also with the earnest and delightful hosts, Lena and Niels. Our room was spacious with a desk for computer work; a very comfortable bed; a generously-sized bathroom with tiled shower and bidet; and a window that opened onto a gorgeous vista of the countryside. There is an adjacent turret with small refrigerator, sink, table service, and table for picnics. But one can also find chairs and tables throughout the gardens to enjoy a bottle of wine and picnic. L’Ombrière is perfectly situated to reach major tourist attractions (Lascaux IV — 40 minutes; Sarlat — 10 minutes; chateaus and gardens —10-30 minutes). The heart and soul of L’Ombrière, though, is Lena and Niels. Always greeting us with enthusiasm and interest, they suggested places to visit, made dinner reservations for us, and prepared and served the most delicious table d’hôtes (dinner) for us and other guests. It was actually hard to say goodbye to this very sweet couple.
